Another day of picture perfect weather that doesn't provide perfect conditions. It takes so much longer to clear up the after effects of some bad weather. We have only been able to dive with visibility in our shallower spots (15-20 ft). Luckily, we were able to shoot up some decent size mangoes in a shallow patch reef.

After that, we got a little excited and thought that some of our deeper patch reefs might have cleared up. Unfortunately, we wasted the trip, as the visibility was even worse than the last couple of days. It seems like the tideline just doesn't want to move in close enough to shore to clear up our patch reefs.

As testament to my earlier statements about Goliath Grouper, we hit one of our long time grouper ledges only to find that what appears to be an entire Goliath Grouper community has moved in. What has now moved into this ledge can only be described as a community. I counted at least 15 different Goliath Grouper on this one ledge that only stretches about 60 feet. This is a small ledge, but it has excellent depth and height for grouper to hide in. The impressive thing about this group was that they ranged in size from the smallest at about 30-40 lbs to the largest specimen which in my opinion probably weighed well over 500 lbs.

It used to be a special sight for us to see a 100 lb Goliath Grouper on this ledge, usually accompanied by at least a few Black Grouper darting in and around the ledge. But with this sighting today, I am completely convinced that the Goliath isn't on its way back... it has already arrived.

We just keep waiting patiently and hoping the tide cleans things up for us.
